Six gentle weeks · Week 0
Week 0: a gentle start to the six weeks
Five minutes to get your bearings before week 1. Nothing to fill in yet, and nothing to get right.
What the six weeks are
One small step a week, in an order that helps: first see the work, then share it out, then look after how you talk about it.
- Week 1: See the work. Jot down who does what, for one week. Just notice.
- Week 2: One owner per job. Give each regular job one owner.
- Week 3: How much is each of you carrying? A short stress check, each day for a week.
- Week 4: Talk about it kindly. A clear, kind ask, and a pause line for hard moments.
- Week 5: Get back in step. A 90-second daily check-in.
- Week 6: Make it last. Run the week 1 log again, compare, and keep one small habit.
How long it takes
- About half an hour a week for that week’s page, plus a minute or two on some days. Weeks 1 and 3 have a short daily note.
- Want more? Each week has extra reading behind “Go deeper”. The full program can take a few hours a week. The short way counts just as much.
- Some weeks take longer than a week. That’s normal. Six weeks is an order, not a deadline.
On your own, or with someone
You can do all six weeks on your own. You can also do them with anyone you share a home or a load with: a partner, a housemate, a parent, a grown child, a co-parent, a friend or a co-carer. Each person fills in the pages about themselves; the shared pages are for everyone.
Doing it alone is doing it. You will still see the work more clearly, and you will have kind words ready if someone joins you later.
If bringing this up with the other person feels frightening, not just awkward, please read Safety & support before any shared step. You can still do the weeks on your own, privately.
Missing a week is fine
There are no streaks, no scores and nothing to fall behind on. Skip a week, repeat one, or stop for a month. Pick up anywhere. If you like, tick off weeks as you go; that is kept on this device only, and you can erase it any time.
What to have ready
- Your phone, or paper and a pen. Every page works either way.
- A regular half hour that’s yours. The calendar below can hold it for you.
- For week 1: somewhere to jot down jobs as they happen, for one week.
- If someone is joining you: one calm moment to ask. Nothing more.
“I found a six-week thing about sharing the load at home. No blame, just noticing. Want to try it with me?”
“I’m going to try this on my own for a few weeks. You’re welcome to join any time.”
One thing to do now: five minutes
Try this now: think about yesterday. Write down three things you did that kept things running, that nobody saw. Noticing the milk was low. Paying a bill. Remembering a birthday.
Not saved anywhere: it stays on this page until you close it. Paper works just as well.
That’s it. You have started noticing, which is all week 1 asks.
When you’re ready
Start week 1’s page See the six weeks
Week 1’s page opens in the Workpaper Suite, one week at a time, with a “Done for this week” button. What you type stays on this device.
